National education policy 2020- a revolutionary change
NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL POLICY 2020
After independence, our country has gone through a lot of changes, from Jawaharlal Nehru to Narendra Modi, emergency to lockdown, from Indo-Pakistan war to Indo-China war and now from NEP 1968 to NEP 2020. Here, we will talk about NEP 2020 and what changes it will bring to our education system.
The team, the third spectacle tried to have the sight from its third eye. into this trending topic.

What is NEP?
NEP is a National Educational Policy, which the government of India passes to reform our education system. Three policies have already been passed in 1968, 1986, and 1992. The panel of new education policy was headed by former ISRO chief K Kasturi Rangan, was set up by union MHRD in 2017 which submitted the much-awaited draft in 2019 and finally got approved on 29th July 2020.
What major changes this new policy will bring to our education system?
1) Kothari commission 1964 recommended spending 6% GDP on education which the government will try to implement in NEP 2020.
2) The existing education system is of 10+2 which will be changed to 5+3+3+4 that is
5 years of pre-primary to the second standard
3 years of the third to fifth standard
3 years of sixth to eighth standard
4 years of ninth to twelfth standard
3)The Mother tongue, regional language should be the medium of instruction until grade five.
4) Schools will focus on skill development if students after the sixth standard.
5) You will have full freedom of choice. There will be no separation of science and art. You can even study biology and economics together if you want to.
5) Your actual knowledge and concepts will be checked in the board exams.
6) It will focus on the mental and overall development of students.
7) Online education will be promoted in this policy.
8) For higher education, you will have multiple exit options.
9) Except for legal and medical college, all the colleges will be under the same authority.
After noticing all these points, we wish this policy should have passed during my school years but every coin has two sides, on one hand, NEP 2020 is getting major support whereas, on the other hand, some people are against it. We can see a lot of criticism for NEP on twitter and some of the most heightened points are-
1) Regional language- this is the most misinterpreted point as people think that it is compulsory whereas, in the draft in NEP 2020, it is mentioned that "wherever possible, until grade five, the medium of instruction should be mother language, regional language or home language." English is a very important global language but we have already lost our around 200 regional languages and language is very valuable for any culture and we think there is nothing wrong with promoting regional languages.
2) Some people are posting that internship for students of class sixth to eight is like promoting child labor and we need to clear this, in child labor children don't have any other option and are also exploited whereas here if students and their parents want, they can do an internship. The motive of providing vocational training is to serve professions like carpenter and potters equal respect as any other profession gets.
3) Another criticism is that we don't have skilled and trained teachers and so it might not be implemented successfully but this policy will not only bring changes for students but teachers also. B.ed will be a 4 years integrated program from now onwards. For teachers that are already hired, they will have some mandatory courses, setting up national professional standards, etc.
These points lead us to the conclusion that if some changes are made and if implemented successfully, this can be a major revolution in our education system. We request all the students and parents to support the nation because together we stand, together we grow.
